Art in Paradise: Chiang Mai

This summer my sister Bri and I decided to meet in Thailand for our annual visit (she lives in Australia) and since I'd never been to the northern part of the country, we decided to visit Chiang Mai. As we learned more about the area and the city, we stumbled across a museum called Art in Paradise in which visitors can immerse themselves in illusion art by taking photos with large 3D murals. Having never been to anything similar, we were immediately sold and hiked to the museum from our hotel a couple days after our arrival. The museum may be geared towards families, but we loved it and I'm totally unashamed to say that we got really into it. Like really into it, to the point where other visitors were taking pictures of us, which actually made us quite proud. The museum was surprisingly large and I think we spent almost 3 hrs there when all was said and done. Since a lot of the paintings extended onto the floor there were signs by most of them requesting that visitors remove their shoes to help protect the art, which is why you'll notice we're barefoot in most of the photos. Examples of how to pose with some of the trickier pieces of art were provided, and some had marks on the floor to indicate where the photographer and person being photographed should stand in order to capture the best illusion, which was quite handy. All in all it was loads of fun and we'd highly recommend it if you visit Chiang Mai (there are also Art in Paradise museums in Bangkok and Pattaya) and are looking for a less "classic" activity. The following is a sampling of the photos we took there. If you've been to any of the Art in Paradise museums, we'd love to see your photos, so feel free to share!

We spent some extra time in Rome on this trip in order to visit the Vatican Museums. We tried to go last time when we had just Jasper, but tickets were sold out! I was a bit nervous about going with two kids, especially a busy toddler who loves to ru

I think our few day side trip to Malta is going to turn out to be one of our highlights from this trip. We've been staying in Valletta and been totally amazed by the ancient history everywhere you look. Plus, how can you not be totally enchanted by s
