Idea to Start Our Adventure Mail Club

In our world of tablets, phones and social media, we’re trying a more tangible way of sharing our travels and outdoor adventures with you! A snail mail adventure club for kids that parents, friends, and family can enjoy too. Our kiddos (Jasper and Freya) are five and three now and it’s been so fun experiencing the world of travel through their eyes, so a few months ago we thought, why not share that with other kids and families too? We also thought about how much our kids love getting physical mail and decided to combine our travels and adventures with the joy of receiving mail to create a hands on way of sharing our travels :)

Justin and I have traveled to over 50 countries on six continents and Jasper and Freya have now been to 25 countries and we still feel like we’ve just started when it comes to family travel. We have so many exciting stories and experiences to share from all those trips and upcoming trips about our adventures and misadventures around the world.

How It Works

When you sign up for a subscription to our Wandering Woods Adventure Mail Club, your child (or a special child in your life) will receive a monthly delivery from us that includes a letter about one of our trips or outdoor adventures along with goodies like stickers, simple crafts, activities, or mementos related to that trip/adventure to bring it alive. You can self-manage your subscription to cancel any time because we know that sometimes you need to try a few mail clubs before you find the right fit. You can sign up for a monthly subscription or a discounted yearly subscription. The yearly subscription makes a great gift for grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends’ kids, or any curious child in your life. Instead of one more toy that may be forgotten quickly, our mail club gives them something new to look forward to each month.

What Makes Our Mail Club Special

Sending snail mail isn’t a new idea. There are plenty of mail clubs to choose from, but here’s what we think makes our mail club special:

  • Real adventures, not made up trips

All of our letters feature true stories from countries and places we’ve actually explored, trails we’ve hiked, parks we’ve visited, wildlife we’ve spotted, and moments we’ve shared as a family. Your child isn’t just receiving generic travel facts or a pretend postcard. They’re getting a peek into real adventures from a real family who loves getting outside, exploring new places, and sharing that wonder with others.

  • Personal, small-batch, and made with care

We’re a real family creating these letters ourselves. We do every step of the process from writing the letters and drawing illustrations to picking out photographs and designing stickers and activities. Because of that, each piece of mail carries a more personal feel than a large subscription box or generic travel club. We care about making each month feel special.

  • Fun for grown-ups too

Our adventure mail isn’t only for kids! Adults often tell us they love following along with our travels and say that they live vicariously through our adventures. This mail club makes that experience more tangible. It gives the whole family something to open, read, talk about, and enjoy together :)

  • Kid-tested and approved

Our own 3- and 5-year-old kids give input, test activities, react to the stories, and help us notice what feels fun, surprising, or exciting from a child’s perspective. So when we say it’s kid-approved, we mean it. The letters and surprises are designed with real kids in mind, not just adults guessing what children might enjoy.

What You Get

Here’s an example of the kinds of things your special child can expect in their monthly delivery. The photo below shows what will be included in our letter about Iceland: A photo strip from our trip, a hand drawn illustration of an Icelandic pony by me (Betsy), a sticker we designed, a mad lib game about Iceland, and a pretend boarding pass to Reykjavik with blank areas for your child to fill in their personal details. You can see more examples and follow our creative process at our Wandering Woods TikTok.

San Marino. Ever heard of it? It's one of the world's smallest countries, landlocked within central Italy. One of Justin's goals is to visit 150 countries (we both hit 50 countries on this trip), so we decided to drive to San Marino during this last
